Technology plays a significant role in optimizing cement production. Most cement manufacturing companies continue to use the 1824 patent formulated by Joseph Aspdin to date.
With the traditional method, the process begins by mining raw materials such as limestones, clays and other resources in the area. These elements are eventually crushed and stacked into a stockpile for grinding. The mix are dried and grinded again before cooking in a kiln feed with silica and/or clay, and undergoes stages of preheating up to 1500 centigrade to produce clinker. This component, added with gypsum are then milled together to become cement.
We trace the history of cement-making to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Before the industrial revolution, they used raw materials such as Nile clay with burned husk. Nile Clay contained elements such as Alumina and Silica, while the burned ashes of the rice husk are Calcium Hydroxide. When mixed together, these created durable concrete behind their statuesque architectures.
